After what has been a number of hours of work, the Personal Web Design Degree is now live. This initial version of the project contains the overall structure of the curriculum and book list. Both the site and the project are a work in progress that I will be adding to over time; however I feel that this is a project that can truly benefit from the input of the crowd. That being said, I am using this blog post as both and introduction to the project and a request for participation by the global design community.
Just the Beginning
What is in place is the start of what I hope will become a great resource for anyone looking to increase their understanding of web and interactive design. Each section of the curriculum consists of the following elements:
- A Reading List
- Related Articles
- Key Concepts
- A Study Guide
- A Review Quiz
As it currently stands the project needs a number of articles that help reinforce the skills outlined within each level of the curriculum. The skills to be covered within the levels of the curriculum are listed on the curriculum overview page or in my previous article “The State of Online Web Design Education.”
If you would like to help out please share links to some trustworthy articles on the skills covered in each of the curriculum levels. You can either post in the comments below, both which section you believe the article belongs in and a link to it, or visit the community forums of and post it there.
Finally, if you find the Personal Web Design Degree worthy of sharing with you friends I would really appreciate it. You can either share this article or the site itself.

Excellent. This is what we need — something more than just tutorials and lists.

I’ve been looking for some sort of resource like this forever now. I’ve asked many designers before, but none really replied… Thanks for creating and running this project, many many to-be designers will be very thankful.

Wow, some real work and thought gone into this web design degree. I think we need to involve a lot more though, i see web design as a combination of talents and knowledge. Many programmes needed - design, code, animation, video, SEO, Social networking and more. For you to create a good web designer, all these things need to be learnt. Yes the visual aspects are extremely important, but the coding behind it is just as important.
