Well, I do not want to turn this blog into a site devoted to endless lists full of links, however I was called out when I wrote my first article about designs that do not have the typical “web 2.0” aesthetic. Here is the comment from Adam that led to this sequel:
I think from now on so called lists of well-designed sites should not include any sites from creative services companies. These sites are made by designers for designers, and not for the general public, and hence defeat the point of truly useful design. No one really uses these sites on a day to day basis.
If you want a really compelling list then find sites that are usable outside the design community. The only one on this list that was well done that qualifies under that metric was homesatedgewater.com. The sundance site comes close but I found a cross browser error in 30 seconds. Firefox isnt that rare anymore… In my mind the dogdgeball one could have been close too…if it were actually more than one page.
So I have done just that, I have collected another great group of website designs that do not have a stereotypical “web 2.0” design, and also are not for a design group (Except 31Three, but they even say their audience is developers not designers).

The COBA website looks fantastic, but is a bit lacking in the usability stakes - the ‘rituals’ pages have no ‘back’ or ‘previous’ buttons at all

Well I have to say that first site is just beautiful
Thanks for adding me to the list it always warms my heart to see my work in lists like this as I try so hard to create sites that look different to the norm!!!

Thanks for going to all that trouble to post a follow-up - this list is great - and these are just the kinds of sites I want to look to when I need a little extra inspiration to get past a design problem.
Very much appreciated.

Adam,
I am glad that you came back to the site, your point was valid and I am happy that you found the new list to be a resource.
